Greens--Still Going Strong

Greens at Fort Mason is still going strong!  We'd planned to eat outdoors, but because of the cool and overcast weather, they didn't put tables outside.  We stayed masked while talking and removed our masks only for eating and drinking.  We also met the guideline of no more than 3 households at one table--our bubble?

The food was as delicious as it looks.  I see here I'm beginning with dessert, but I had only a tiny taste because I was so fully satisfied!

Vegan bests Stars to tie series.

"Vegan bests Stars to tie series" is how I read the title on the back page of the sports section.

Hope springs eternal.

Of course, Vegan was Vegas.

Daniel M. Lavery and the Terror of Factory Farms

What I was really excited about was the appearance of Judy Tsang, a friend of Jonathan, who was appearing in the cover story of Food + Wine today, Sunday, July 19, 2020 in "Raising the bar:  How an apartment building turned into the best cocktail spot in SF."  But that belongs more in the San Francisco Vistas Blog.  (Coming right up!)

What I didn't expect but was happy to see was a full back page on the Impossible Cookbook,  "Recipes make meatless possible" in today's Food section of the SF Chronicle

I'm not a big fan of simulated meat, so what interested me even more was Soleil Ho's interesting interview with Daniel M. Lavery, who has an advice column and talked about the "terror of factory farms."  He says "When it comes to both workers' rights and the future and climate change, everything about the systems that we have in our foodways is terrifying.  Everything about factory farming is terrifying.  Anybody who tries to think about it for over a minute, I think, often runs into just this absolute sense of terror, like, .'Oh my God we've create hell on Earth.'"  He goes on from there.

Jace Young, 6 year old victim, wouldn’t eat meat “because it will kill animals”

I was so sad to hear that a six-year-old child was a victim of fire arms over the Fourth of July weekend.

I later learned more about him, including this:

Delicious Tastes this Sunday--from my own kitchen

I got hungry, so I moved from where I'd just put my father's causes on Facebook for Father's Day and got to using the ingredients I needed to use before another century transpired.

I made the Ala cracked wheat pilaf they have on the back of a very old box.  I didn't have any fresh mushrooms, so I used the canned from a few years ago.  Delicious, and I still haven't keeled over dead.

I also found the edamame I'd defrosted a few days ago--still good!  I made a kale salad with that and added cherry tomatoes, sunflower seeds.  I made a tofu dressing (Don't tell; nobody would suspect it's tofu), so now I'm all set for dinner.  Lunch was the tasting along the way.
