Here's my plate at Jana's when our Francophone-Francophile group got together at her house on August 30. I'm grateful to friends who have the concept of plant-based food even if they don't adhere to it all the time. They understand that vegan isn't just for the vegans but for animal welfare and the environment.
I hope SDA, Senior and Disability Action, will be able to get this into their next newsletter:
If you are passionate about fighting climate change, protecting our local environment, and fighting for social justice, you are already in the right place. But if you think "vegan" means eating nothing but grass and passing judgment, the SFVegFest can show you what it really is.
Think of plant-based eating as the ultimate progressive intersection. Choosing plant-based meals is one of the single most powerful ways an individual can slash their carbon footprint right now. But it goes far beyond the environment. By shifting away from factory farming, we are actively standing up for animal welfare and rejecting a system notorious for exploiting its workforce. Slaughterhouses and industrial farms have some of the highest rates of worker injuries and labor violations in the country, often affecting vulnerable and immigrant communities.
SF VegFest isn’t about perfection or sudden lifestyle overhauls. It’s a celebration of incredible, innovative food that aligns with our values. Whether you are fully vegan, trying a "Meatless Monday," or simply here for the free samples, come explore how delicious progress can taste.
