I went to a lovely luncheon this past Sunday and brought two dishes--a vegan quiche and lemon cake.  The hostess very kindly provided two delicious salads (and even used vegan mayonnaise) as well as the not-vegan cheese and not-vegan croissants.  It was all very lovely.

I noticed that one person, hearing that that I'd made the quiche and knowing that I'm vegan, served herself a miniscule portion of it.  But others seemed to like both of the dishes I made as well as what the hostess had prepared.

We all asked for her recipe for her cabbage salad, and she sent us the non-vegan mayonnaise version.

It saddens me to know that some people think a vegan diet is for vegans.  I wish they understood that it's for all animals (including human ones) and for the planet.

Going to D.C. a week ago, I was happy to see that United was offering a vegan breakfast bagel.  Of course, I bought one and looked forward to having another when returning on United this morning, but they were out.  I hope that means that there was a great demand!

Now that I've unpacked and started importing pictures, I have the chance to look this up, and I see that this vegan breakfast bagel is something new:

I hope to try the other vegan items they mention, but my next flight is Delta.

It occurred to me when I was having lunch with two friends at a restaurant that wasn't vegan that we all would have more options--and more protein--if we ate at a vegan restaurant or if they ate what they would be eating (meat) if I weren't there.  Instead, they ordered meat-free dishes, and even though the dishes were very tasty, there were only three possibilities and not much protein.

Whoops!  I just realized that the most recent vegan meal I enjoyed wasn't this past wasn't Sunday, when we went to Cha-Ya, a vegan restaurant on Valencia Street in SF (not far from the 16th Street BART Station) where all the staff is Asian.  It was yesterday when my sister had us over for a birthday lunch.

She made a lot of delicious vegan dishes.

I made the cake.

There are so many wonderful vegan restaurants and scores of delicious vegan dishes, so I'm behind in posting, so I'll post with the most recent and go back.

Here's from Cha-Ya a Japanese restaurant that's 100% vegan on Valencia Street in SF.  A friend of ours who for some reason doesn't like it couldn't make it to a get-together recently, so though we were sorry to miss her company, we took advantage of her absence to eat there.
